Understanding Program Management

Program Management

Introduction

Program Management is a process for handling several projects in an organization with the intention to improve the performance of the organization. It is also a plan to achieve a business objective with clear details about the work, resource, and finance.

The ingredients of the program management are project portfolio and the definition of the goal that is shared. Allocating the resources across different projects requires a mechanism, and that is where this concept plays a pivotal role.

The program will be designed to deliver the strategy of the organization. The strategy may be to achieve a particular position in the global market or to cut down the wastage by the end of the year. A program is a collection of projects that are well coordinated to gain control over them and bring in the benefits to the organization that cannot be achieved with the individual projects. The programs will include several elements from outside the projects in order to deliver the useful and incremental benefits to the organization.
